Urine Baldness
What is wrong with my Ferret?
About a week or two ago i started to realise my ferrets urine went a green colour. It is starting to go even greener. He has got baldness on his tail, but i looked closer and it is rats tail.
i went to the vets today and she said she felt his stomach hard. She said it could be a lump or it is just thick. Ive noticed that he is a bit fat in his stomach area and when she was just just pressing on his kidneys and stomach area there was a bit of discomfort.
He is eating normal and drinking normal. He isnt playing as much at all. We are taking a urine sample when we go to the vets next and if anything is not right he is having some x-rays.
He is also nearly 3 years old. He was a rescue ferret and he is a single ferret (he doesnt like other ferrets. Prefers to be by himself). We play with him or atleast try everyday and he is out of his cage for about 1-2 hours
Is this any symptons? Is it serious?
Is he going bald anywhere else but the tail? And are you sure its just rat tail? How long has the fur been gone? Are you cleaning his tail? Try using a mild soap acne soap a few times a day. If that doesn’t clear it up, I’d start researching adrenal.
3 is a bit young to be adrenal, and you don’t mention any other symptoms, like aggression or sexual advances towards another animal or yourself?
The hard mass in the stomach sounds worrisome though. And the green pee/poop does sound like ECE especially if he is playing less and sleeping more. Check the poop, is it watery?
If its ECE that is very contagious and he should not be around other animals as it sheds in the poop. You’ll need to gather several poop samples and mash them together for a fecal float. I would ask your vet to test several samples since the bacteria is typically not present each time.
