18, female, extremely thinning hair?

Hi. I am an 18 year old female and I have recently noticed an extreme thinning in my hair. I used to have VERY thick hair. In fact, my hair dresser, friends, etc would always make comments about it. In the past 6 months or so, I have noticed some very extreme thinning of my hair. The part is wider all over and when I put it in a ponytail, I can wrap my index and thumb around it without a problem, whereas before my index finger and thumb would not even touch.

I take iron pills, wash my hair every other day, and do not use heat on my hair save for maybe 3 times a month. Being in college it’s not like I have the best diet, however this problem started before I entered college, and I did eat fairly healthy at home.

Please, I could really use some advice. Should I go to a dermatologist, change my diet, etc?
I would also like to ask what sort of doctor should I see? Just a normal one or…?

I also have the same problem. My hair used to fall out so much when I washed it.It would be like it just started coming out in my hands and also at just other times throughtout the day. I could see hair all over the house. I just searched online and found a lot of stuff about how shampoo is bad for ur hair because it contains sodium lauryl sulfate. So then I stated using organic shampoo. Look online or at any shop for organic shampoo, should nit contain any chemicals or atleast not sodium lauryl ( or laureth) sulfate or ammonium lauryl(or laureth) sulfate. I’ve found tht it decreases my hairfall and I’ve also been taking vitamin B complex and vitamin E tablets. another thing that has helped a lot is a mixture my mum told me abt .. it’s 1egg yolk, 2 tbsp yogurt, 1-2tbsp olive oil and 1tsp honey and a bit if lemon juice. Apply it on ur scalp and hair and wash after an hr. Has helped me alot.
