Will taking Metformin for my PCOS help with my thinning hair, spots, and extra body hair?

My Doctor has said it should help regulate my cycle, but I forget to ask about my other symtoms. Also, is it safe to take Metformin long term?
Also, the info in the packet says that I can’t drink alcohol. Really? Not drink at all? What happens if I do?
