Sudden Hair Loss Cats

sudden hair loss cats
My 12 year old cat is suffering from hair loss….why?

My cat is 12 years old and she has always had a nice thick long haired coat but all of a sudden I have noticed that she is suffering from hair loss especially on her sides and around her behind(I can see her skin) .Could it be age related? Do older cats lose their fur? Any opinions? Thanks in advance

Your Answer:
Cat lose hair for a wide variety of reasons. It could be a hormonal deficiency, or she could be overgrooming, have a food allergy, or a condition for which hairloss is a symptom.

Without a visit to the vet it would be impossible to even guess at what could be wrong with your cat.

The resource link below lists many reasons for hair loss. The more common ones are highlighted in grey.

My suggestion is to make an appointment with your vet as soon as possible so diagnosis and treatment can be started. Your cat is 12 years old, which, while a senior, is not considered to be “elderly”.

So get thee to the vet ASAP and good luck.

Hope this helps,
