Why do men prefer long hair?

I know not all men prefer long hair but it seems like a lot do, because I told my boyfriend I was thinking about cutting my hair and he told me I was crazy. Almost all my guy friends told me the same thing…so why do guys seem to like long hair so much? And do you think I should cut my hair?

Well-kept long hair is extremely feminine.

It shows that a woman cares enough about her appearance to maintain and care for it over several years, yet that she is not so vain and impulsive that she has to have the latest hairstyle (which is inevitably short) every few months. It is unique and stands out.

Nothing compares to seeing very long hair tumble down a woman’s back or sway as she moves. It can be the ultimate concealing and revealing lingerie.

Historically it was a sign of availability and youth. In eastern Europe, unmarried women used to wear their hair long and cut it short on their wedding day. Even today, a lot of women get the chop after they get married.

Shorter hair is easier to take care, more “stylish,” more mature and sophisticated, and will get more compliments from women. For most women at some point, those criteria become more important than the advantages of long hair, and they go short.

Only you can decide if it’s time to cut your hair. A lot of women wait until they are married and don’t need to attract guys any more to get the chop, but some want to experiment with shorter styles earlier. You’re definitely young enough to keep your long hair for several more years. But you’re also young enough to cut it short now and still grow it very long again by your early-mid 20s. But you should think carefully, because your decision now will impact your look for at least the next 2-4 years.

The short style you picked is cute, simple, and attractive. It is practical and gets your hair off of your back and shoulders. It would be much easier to maintain and still be long enough for a very short ponytail. It also will grow out well if you choose. But to most guys, nothing can compare to the very long hair.

If you do decide to cut your hair, try to make it easier on your boyfriend by warning him in advance. Make sure he (and you) have some pictures of your long hair. Consider giving him your cut braid as a memento–some guys like that. (Don’t worry about donating; locks of love gets much more hair than they use and tosses/sells the rest.)
