Hair Loss Vegetarian
Anemia and Hair Loss; Does anyone have any information about this?
Last month my hair started falling out. At first I really thought nothing of it. However, I have lost more than 40% (feels like it anyway) of my hair. I had a TSH test done to rule out a thyroid problem and that came back negative. I had a blood test done on Wednesday and I am still waiting for results. I may be anemic and wanted more information about what to expect if this is the case.
BTW: I am a vegetarian and the only dairy I eat is cheese. I’ve been a vegetarian for over two years, but cut out eggs last year.
Low iron and low protein levels can lead to hair loss. But, if you are eating a wide range of foods as a vegetarian you will get enough nutrition for this not to be a problem. Some medications may cause you to lose hair, or it may be that your hair is just going through a normal shedding cycle, and just seem like a lot.
Wait to see what your labs say, but don’t worry about your diet yet, your diet is probably much healthier than the standard american diet (SAD) which has way too much fat and empty calories!
