Spironalactone for PCOS?

I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), and I’m 22 and on Desogen, Metformin, and Spironalactone. The Spironalactone was for the excess hair, but when I moved and talked to another doctor she said it was a diuretic, and to help keep water weight down. Any ideas?

I was diagnosed when I was about 15, and have been on these 3 medicines since then. What are my chances of concieving when the time comes? Does anyone know of an online forum or support group for PCOS patients? I know it’s not like breast cancer or anything like that, but it still effects my daily life.

Oh, and any weight loss ideas? Losing weight with PCOS is as easy as sticking a watermelon up my nose.

I was finally diagnosed with PCOS after many, many trips to the doctor. I was treated for everything from depression to anxiety to panic attacks to hormonal imbalances to you name it. I was also put on Spironalactone for excessive hair growth. It can also be used as a diuretic in which it makes you urinated more frequently. Androgen-lowering spironolactone (Aldactone), which is a diuretic. It is often used with estrogen-progestin therapy. This improves hair loss, acne, and abnormal hair growth on the face and body (hirsutism).

Metformin (Glucophage). This diabetes medicine is a newer PCOS treatment for controlling insulin, blood sugar levels, and androgen levels. This lowers your diabetes and heart disease risks and helps restore regular menstrual cycles and fertility.

As for the Desogen……. Estrogen and progestin birth control pills prevent ovulation. Functional ovarian cysts do not form without ovulation. Birth control pills can be used to treat women who have recurrent ovarian cysts with their menstrual cycles.

I’m sure if you speak to your doctor and let her know when you are ready to start having children she will start weaning you off of the birth control and go over the probabilities with you.

Dont let PCOS discourage you from planning a family in the future. I have had 3 children now and I am doing wonderful.
