Breastfeeding, hair loss, and bruising?
I am breastfeeding a 5 month old and I have noticed that I bruise SUPER easy. I have bruises all over my legs and some on my arms and I dont even know what they are from. I also have really bad hair loss. I lose tons everyday! its all over my house.
I had my iron checked and they said it was high and I shouldnt be taking anything with iron in it (this was before I ever noticed the bruising and the hair loss wasnt bothering me at this point. I think it was when my son was about 2 months old)
any ideas? I’m wondering if I should be taking some vitamin supplement or something. I don’t take anything right now.

Hi there, it’s quite normal for you to lose your hair after having a baby. This, I believe, is due to the fact normally you shed so many hairs a day but when you’re pregnant this stops – so after you’ve had the baby you are only actually losing the hair that you should have naturally shed in the previous 9 months – so yes, there is quite a bit and it does go on for some months!
As for your bruising, seeing as you’ve had your iron levels checked could it be plain old tiredness/clumsiness with having a new baby? If not, I would mention it to the GP or your HV.
Regarding supplements, I would discuss this further with your GP especially with you breastfeeding. Good luck.
