Hair Loss Dieting

Could dieting over a prolonged time without success, still cause hair loss?
I have dieted off and on for the past two years, mainly weight watchers. I would be very strict during the week keeping under my points and then taking a day off on the weekend. I have lost fat %, but not pounds. Unfortunately, I have lost quite a bit of hair as well. Even though I didn’t lose weight could the hair loss still be due to the restriction of calories and protein?
Extreme dieting, especially with inadequate protein and nutrients is just one of the many possible causes of female hair loss. If you are experiencing excessive shedding you should consider all the possibilities to try to determine the particular cause. In many cases there is more than one contributing factor. Possibilities include starting or stopping any medication, recent illness especially if high fever was involved, trauma, surgery, extreme stress, flu shot etc….
