My cat is missing fur on his back, above tail?

My year old cat is missing fur on his back, right before his tail. It seems to be moving upward towards the front of his body(nearer to his head). It wasn’t that bad, first just looked like his hair was thinning, then I noticed there was more missing and then it started to spread. I don’t know what it could be? I have 6 dogs, but he’s never around any them- he mainly is confined to my bedroom. My parents can’t take him to the vet until around February. But if I could look up some possible creators of his hair loss, I might be able to find a home remedy to do until we can get him to the vet. Anybody know have any opinions or advice? Please, he means so much to me and I feel so responsible and guilty.
He doesn’t seem sore when I pet him, but he moves around so fast, and doesn’t really like to be held for more than 3 seconds, that I can’t really tell if he’s moving away because it hurts or if it’s because that’s how he normally is.
