Baldness Definition

Assumption of Intellectual Property?
Just curious what the general consensus is on this fundamental aspect of intellectual property. Of step is not necessary to include the definition of a patent, copyright, etc, only an analysis of the structure is necessary. And do not worry, no response will be considered professional legal advice. As such, the following hypo: Let the discovery of a new use of the tape (ie, if you put on your skin and cure baldness, headaches, cancer skin, whatever), is there a way to go about protecting this commercial application (ie away from competitors who sell this new use of tape insulator)? What if the band is, nominally, the change (eg change of color, cut differently) to differentiate the use of common applications Tape? Basically, this question simply asks if there is intellectual property protection for someone to back-end, a product already on the market. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
I'm far from being a legal expert in intellectual property, but I guess there are ways to protect their intellectual property, as you mentioned above to apply for a patent or trade secret best to stay quiet in which not only reveals his secret process, while while having the protection of the courts.
